Bible Study: Not Guilty: Part 5: Not Guilty

 Scripture Reference:
""There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [2] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. [3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4] That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." [Romans 8:1-2]

THE TWO COVENANTS:
Guilt and condemnation are primary tools used by the enemy to hinder the effectiveness of the Body of Christ and deprive the children of God from their rightful inheritance. Unfortunately, this deception of the enemy has succeeded mainly because believers today fail to understand the difference between the OLD Covenant given to the Israelites [The Law] and the NEW Covenant given to us: The Church!

Despite this; many of God’s children are still trying to operate in the principles of the OLD Covenant to achieve right-standing with God and qualify for His blessings.

Scriptural Truths:
The list of scriptures in the New testament regarding this subject is too long to place all of them in this study, however we have placed just a few of them here. For further understanding on this we recommend that you download or listen to the complete 5 part audio series that is available online for free here: http://www.biblecities.com/broadcasts_audio.htm

"Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. “Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. [Hebrews 10:15-18]

"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, has he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [Colossians 2:13-14]

“Before faith came, we were kept under the law, held in preparation for the faith the faith that was be revealed. So then, the law was our schoolmaster (NIV “Trainer”) to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] But after faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” [Galatians 3:24-25]

  • “Therefore we must know (and understand) that a man is NOT justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.” [Galatians 2:16]

“For as many as are of the works of the law [those who depend on the Law and are seeking to be justified by obedience to the rituals or commandments contained in the Law] …. Are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. AND THE LAW IS NOTOF FAITH” [Galatians 3:10-12]

"Clearly, God's promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God's law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith. If God's promise is for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary and the promises (that come by faith alone) are pointless." [Rom 4:13-14 NLT]

"Therefore, [inheriting] the promise is the outcome of faith and depends [entirely] on faith, in order that it might be given as an act of grace (unmerited favor), to make it stable and valid and guaranteed to all his descendants--not only to the devotees and adherents of the Law, but also to those who share the faith of Abraham, who is [thus] the father of us all." [Romans 4:16 AMP]

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, thru whom we also have access BY FAITH into the grace that we now stand in" [Romans 5:1-2]

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [2] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. [3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4] That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." [Romans 8:1-2]t

THE RESULTS OF CONDEMNATION:
Because of the lack of understanding in the Body of Christ, many of God’s children go about their lives feeling guilty and suffering from condemnation. Most have very little idea of the surpassing greatness of what was accomplished for us when Jesus took our place on the cross at Calvary, taking our sin, our sickness, our affliction, our poverty, and every other facet of the curse.

This lack of understanding has hobbled many in the household of God and deprived them from assuming their rightful place as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. Guilt and condemnation has stripped many of God’s people of their confidence in our heavenly Father and destroyed their faith in His willingness to perform His Word and bring forth the manifestation of the promised blessing in their life.

The result is that instead of receiving BY FAITH the justification and righteousness that comes by faith, they have fallen into the same error that the Israelites did:

"For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God, For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth. " [Romans 10:3-4]

THE GLORY OF THE CROSS:
Beloved, the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross was to destroy both the curse of the law and the necessity of trying to obtain righteousness thru the works of the law that not even Israel was able to obtain despite hundreds of years of trying. “

“But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness.” [Romans 9:31]

When we, as those that are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ attempt to obtain righteousness (right-standing) with God in the same manner as the Israelites, we invalidate the work of the cross – nullifying the grace of God and making the promises of no effect.

THE LAW BRINGS CONDEMNATION:
Certainly we must live a life worthy of the salvation we have received in Christ, and most assuredly we should conduct ourselves as children of a Holy God bearing witness to His goodness and His righteousness. Yet, we must understand that it is NOT our good works that qualifies us for His blessing. Rather in accordance with Scripture, it is what Jesus did FOR us that qualifies us for right-standing with God and heirs of His blessings.

"Giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." [Colossians 1:12-14]

When we endeavor to gain right-standing or favor with God thru our good-works we place ourselves back under the law, and when that happens we suffer the results that come from being under the law: Guilt and Condemnation.

"Now we know that whatever things the law says, it says to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God." [Romans 3:19]
