Scripture Reference:
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in
the Lord, and in the power of his might..... Praying in the Spirit at
all times, on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests....."
[Ephesians 6:10-18NIV]
BE STRONG IN THE LORD:
Verse 12 of this passage tells us that our struggle is not with
natural things (flesh and blood) - but rather with supernatural or
spiritual forces. "For we wrestle not against
flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in
high places."
If this passage is true (which it is!) - then the only way
that we will overcome these things when they endeavor to come against us
it by spiritual or supernatural means. This is the reason
why scripture instructs us to "be strong in the LORD and the power of
HIS might!" Not our might - but HIS power and His
Might!
Unfortunately few Christians have any idea how to actually do
this! Most are trying to be strong in their own strength instead
of the power and might of God.
LEARN HOW TO
BE STRENGTHENED WITH HIS MIGHT: • Step one: "Put
on the whole armor of God." Most Christian are familiar with this
passage and have some understanding of its meaning.
• Step Two: "Praying always with
all prayer and supplication IN THE SPIRIT..."
Did you notice the phrase "In the Spirit"?
You see, we are not just told to 'pray' - but rather to pray (at ALL
times) IN the SPIRIT.
While most Christians are familiar with step one (putting on the armor
of God) - Few Christians have little knowledge of what
SCRIPTURE teaches regarding the subject of praying "in the Spirit".
There is a lot of tradition, and even more opinion - but
tradition and opinion are no substitute for SCRIPTURE.
If we are to learn what "praying in the Spirit" means, and how to
actually pray in the spirit, then we must look to scripture and
learn what SCRIPTURE teaches us thru specific passages as well as
examples given in scripture where people prayed "in the spirit".
BECOMING STRONG IN THE LORD::
Did you also notice that it is ONLY thru "praying in the Spirit" that we
become STRONG IN THE LORD and the power of His might? And because
it is ONLY by becoming strong in the Lord and the power of HIS might
that we are able to overcome the supernatural
principalities and powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and
spiritual wickedness in high places.
Therefore if we are to obtain the victory that Christ has assured us
that we can obtain, then we must acknowledge the truth of this
passage and endeavor to learn and apply what the
scriptures teach regarding this subject of "praying in the spirit".
Try as we may, unless we are led by - and empowered by the
Spirit in our praying - we will remain supernaturally
powerless and left only with our own natural ability which
can never overcome spiritual attacks, or afflictions.
Scripture shows us clearly that accessing the supernatural
strength and power of HIS might thru prayer can only be achieved
by "praying in the Spirit".
