Finding the Right Church

• Should I go to church?
• Do Christians really need to belong to a local church?
• Do I need to go to church to get to heaven?
• Aren't all churches the same?
• What is the difference between one church and another?

These are questions that people ask every day.
Although attending church is not what qualifies an person for entrance into heaven - it is not only
scriptural - but necessary for proper growth to every Christian - and therefore of great importance that every Christian belong to a local church. There are a number of reasons for this which can be found in detail in our Studies section and if you are not sure why a person needs to belong to a local church then we recommend that you read some of the information regarding this subject.

The church that you attend is a matter of great importance.
When a child is born, in most cases, he/she already has a home waiting with loving parents. Think of the child's chances for survival if this were not the case! New Christians also need a good church that they can call "home" if they are to grow and thrive - and finding that right place can be a daunting task. Here's some guidelines to help you find the right church.

Pray and ask God to lead you to the right place.
Realize that He already has a good church picked out for you. Because we live in a world where we're accustomed to making lots of choices, it can be tempting to make our own decision where to go instead of discovering God's plan for our lives.

Be willing to go anywhere God leads you.
This is important especially if it doesn't initially look like what you had in mind.

Once you are sure you're in the right place, there's no need to look further. Don't fall into the trap of "church-hopping" or you'll end up confused and will miss some of what God has for you.

Don't make the mistake of looking for the "perfect" church.
As someone has said, "The only perfect church is the church with no people." Even the pastor, though gifted to lead and teach, is still human and he/she can make mistakes from time to time.

God will lead you to a place that places a high degree of emphasis on the Word of God (the Bible). If you don't need a Bible in a particular church, you can be sure that that's not the church for you!

Attend a church where God is welcome!
God will lead you to a place where the people worship freely and the Holy Spirit's work is recognized and welcomed.

Attend a church where you are welcome.
God will lead you to a place where the people are warm and loving and you are made to feel welcome - and when you are in the place that God wants you, it will seem like "home".

Get Involved.
God is not looking for passive Christians. He wants to bless you - and to use you to bless others. Therefore, get involved - and be as supportive as you know how to be. Adapt to your church and pastor, don't make them adapt to you.
