Scripture Reference:
"For whatsoever things were written
aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and
comfort of the scriptures MIGHT HAVE HOPE." [Rom 15:4]
HOPE:
HOPE is not a word that is taught much in many Christian circles.
Sermons about faith, love, joy, peace and other subjects abound - But
one doesn't find much on the word HOPE. As a matter of fact, many even
consider that if one is 'hoping' for a miracle than they are not in
faith. Nothing could be farther from the truth
SCRIPTURE INSTRUCTS US TO HAVE HOPE:
Contrary to what many believe, God has told us to HAVE 'Hope". After
all, the God we serve is a GOD OF HOPE!
"Now the God of hope fill you with all joy
and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the
power of the Holy Ghost." [Rom 15:13]
To Abound means: 'To have an abundance, to be filled with, to have a
full supply". If HOPE
is such a bad thing that somehow is contrary to 'faith' - then why would
our God call Himself the "GOD OF HOPE" ~ And why would He tell us to
"ABOUND IN HOPE"?.
UNDERSTANDING BIBLE HOPE:
It is important for us as Christians to understand the difference
between what the WORLD calls 'hope' - And what BIBLE defines as 'hope'.
When the WORLD speaks of hope, there is no confidence, no assurance, no
faith, no belief that what they are 'hoping for' will ever come to pass.
They only have what could be described as 'wishful thinking'… As in "I
hope I don't get fired' - or "I hope it isn't serious" 0r I'm hoping
that God will heal me, or meet my need…etc.
But! When the Bible speaks of HOPE - the actual meaning of the word
'HOPE", taken from the Greek Word [Elpis] means: "Sure, Certain,
Confident Expectation".
HALLELUJAH!
Romans 15:4 can then be translated as: "The things
that were written aforetime (In the Scriptures), were written for our
learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures
MIGHT HAVE SURE, CERTAIN, CONFIDENT EXPECTATION."
THE AMPLIFIED BIBLE TRANSLATES THIS PASSAGE THIS WAY:
"For whatever was thus written in former days was
written for our instruction, that by our steadfast and patient endurance
and the encouragement drawn from the Scriptures we might hold fast to
and cherish hope (Our sure, certain & confident expectation that God
will perform His Word)."
Notice that our hope [sure, certain, confident expectation] is drawn
from the scriptures: The Word of God.
When we are lacking confidence, or wondering if God heard
us, or will answer us, all we have to do is go to the scriptures to find
peace, comfort, and assurance that He HAS heard and HAS answered and he
IS dealing with the situation to our good!
GOD WANTS US FILLED WITH HOPE!.
"Now the God of hope FILL YOU with all joy
and peace in believing, that you may ABOUND IN HOPE, through the
power of the Holy Ghost." [Rom 15:13]
Not only does the Lord want us to HAVE hope - He wants us
FILLED with Hope - ABOUNDING in HOPE. Why? Because WITHOUT
hope, our faith has NOTHING to give substance to!
"Now faith is the substance of things HOPED
for, the evidence of things not seen." [Hebrews 11:1]
If there is no hope - then there is nothing for our faith to give
substance to! We NEED Hope. LOTS of hope! Abounding in Hope! And,
the more HOPE we have - the more there is for our faith to give
substance to!
REMEMBER:
The BIBLE meaning of 'hope' is: "Sure, Certain, Confident Expectation".
So the more HOPE we have, the more Sure, Certain, Confident Expectation
we have in God
and His Word to manifest His blessing in our life - Right Here -
Right Now!
BE FILLED WITH HOPE!
Brothers and Sisters go to the Word of God, and as you read the promises
of God for us as NEW Testament Children of the Most High God, HOPE will
begin to rise up in you! Suddenly you will begin to HOPE for miracles in
your life. Suddenly, the POWER of the Holy Ghost will seize you on the
INSIDE and you will begin to HOPE for better things:
• A Better Doctor's Report
• A Better Marriage
• A Better Job or Better Pay
• A Better Financial Status
• A Better Understanding of God's Word
… And much more!
My prayer for each of you is that which comes from Romans 15:13: " Now
the God of hope FILL YOU with all joy and peace in believing, that ye
may ABOUND IN HOPE, through the power of the Holy Ghost."
